Alt Attribute & Seo

SEO Optimization images is becoming more and more important in SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for websites. The ALT attribute is a critical step that is sometimes forgotten. This is often a lost chance of better rankings.

In Google's webmaster guidelines, they advise using alternative text for that images on your site:

Images:. Use the alt attribute to supply descriptive text. In addition, we recommend utilizing a human-readable caption and descriptive text round the image.

Why would they ask us to do that? The answer is easy, really; search engines have the same problem as blind users. They can't begin to see the images.

Many webmasters and inexperienced or unethical SEOs abuse using this attribute, attempting to stuff it with keywords, looking to achieve a certain keyword density, which isn't as relevant for rankings now since it was previously.

On the other hand, high keyword density can, on some search engines, trigger spam filters, which might result in a penalty for your site's ranking. Even without this type of penalty, your site's rankings won't benefit from this tactic.
This process also puts persons who use screen readers at a greater disadvantage. Screen readers are software-based tools that actually read aloud the contents of what is displayed on the screen. In browsing the web, the alt features of images are read aloud as well.

Imagine hearing a paragraph of text that is followed by repetitions of many keywords. The page would be far from accessible, and, to put it mildly, will be found quite annoying.
What is an Alt attribute?

An ALT attribute should not be used like a description or perhaps a label for an image, though lots of people utilize it for the reason that fashion. Though it may appear natural to assume that alternate text is really a label or perhaps a description, it's not!

The words used within an image's alt attribute should be its text equivalent and convey exactly the same information or serve the same purpose the image would.

The thing would be to provide the same functional information that the visual user would see. The alt attribute text should function as a "stand in" in the event that the look itself is not available. Think about this question: Should you replace the image using the text, would most users receive the same basic information, and wouldn't it generate the same response?
Some examples:

Some SEO Optimization Tips

If your search button is a magnifying glass or binoculars its alt text should be 'search' or 'find' not 'magnifying glass' or 'binoculars'.

If an image is meant to convey the literal contents of the look, a description is suitable.

If it is meant to convey data, then that data is what is appropriate.

If it's designed to convey using a function, then the function is what should be used.

Some Alt Attribute Guidelines:

Always add alt attributes to images. Alt is mandatory for accessibility as well as for valid XHTML.

For images that play merely a decorative role within the page, use an empty alt (i.e. alt="") or a CSS background image so that reading browsers don't bother users by uttering such things as "spacer image".

Remember that it is the function of the image we are trying to convey. For example; any button images shouldn't include the word "button" in the alt text. They ought to emphasize the action performed by the button.

Alt text should be based on context. The same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text.

Try to flow alt text with the rest from the text because that's how it will be read with adaptive technologies like screen readers. Someone listening to your page should hardly be aware that a graphic image is there.
Please keep in mind that utilizing an alt attribute for every image is required to satisfy the minimum WAI requirements, that are used as the benchmark for accessibility laws in UK and also the rest of Europe. Also, they are required to meet "Section 508" accessibility requirements in the US.

It is important to categorize non-text content into three levels:

Eye-Candy
Mood-Setting
Content and Function

I. Eye-Candy

Eye-Candy are things that serve no purpose other than to create a site visually appealing/attractive and (oftentimes) fulfill the marketing departments. There isn't any content value (though there may be value to a sighted user).

Never alt-ify eye-candy unless there is something there that will enhance the usability from the site for someone utilizing a non-visual user agent. Use a null alt attribute or background images in CSS for eye-candy.

II. Mood-Setting

This is the middle layer of graphics which might actually set the atmosphere or set the stage so to speak. These graphics aren't direct content and may not be considered essential, but they're important in they help frame what's going on.

Try to alt-ify the second group as makes sense and is relevant. There might be times when doing this might be annoying or detrimental with other users. Then avoid it.

For example; Alt text that's identical to adjacent text is unnecessary, and an irritant to screen reader users. I recommend alt="" or background CSS images in such instances. But sometimes, it's important to get this content inside for those users.

Most times this will depend on context. Exactly the same image in a different context may need drastically different alt text. Obviously, content ought to always be fully available. How you use this case is a judgment call.

III. Content and Function

This is when the look may be the actual content. Always alt-ify content and functional images. Title and long description attributes can also be in order.
The reason many authors can't understand why their alt text isn't working is they don't know why the pictures exist. You have to determined precisely what function an image serves. Consider what it's about the image that's important to the page's intended audience.

Every graphic includes a reason behind being on that page: since it either improves the theme/ mood/ atmosphere or it is advisable to what are the page is trying to explain. Knowing what the image is perfect for makes alt text simpler to write. And practice writing them definitely helps.
A method to check the usefulness of alternative text is to imagine reading the page on the phone to someone. An amount you say when encountering a particular image to make the page understandable towards the listener?

Aside from the alt attribute you've got a couple more tools available for images.
First, in degree of descriptiveness title is within between alt and longdesc. It adds useful information and can add flavor. The title attribute is optionally rendered by the user agent. Remember they are invisible and not shown as a "tooltip" when focus is received via the keyboard. (A lot for device independence). So make use of the title attribute only for advisory information.
Second, the longdesc attribute points to the URL of a complete description of an image. If the information contained in a picture is essential towards the meaning of the page (i.e. some important content would be lost when the image was removed), a longer description than the "alt" attribute can reasonably display ought to be used. It can provide for rich, expressive documentation of a visual image.

It ought to be used when alt and title are insufficient to embody the visual qualities of the image. As Clark [1] states, "A longdesc is a long description of the image...The goal is to use any period of description essential to impart the facts from the graphic.

It wouldn't be remiss to hope that a long description conjures a picture - the image - in the mind's eye, an analogy that holds true even for the totally blind."

Although the alt attribute is mandatory for web accessibility as well as for valid (X)HTML, not all images need alternative text, long descriptions, or titles.

Oftentimes, you are best just choosing your gut instinct -- if it's not necessary to include it, and when you don't possess a strong urge to do it, don't add that longdesc.

However, if it's essential for the whole page to operate, then you have to add the alt text (or title or longdesc).

What's necessary and what's not depends a great deal about the function of the image and its context on the page.

The same image may need alt text (or title or longdesc) in a single spot, but not in another. If an image provides absolutely no content or functional information alt="" or background CSS images may be appropriate to make use of. But if the image provides content or adds functional information an alt would be required and maybe even a long description will be so as. In many cases this kind of thing is really a judgement call.

Image Search Engine Optimization Tips

Listed here are key stages in optimizing images:

Choose a logical file name that reinforces the keywords. You should use hyphens in the file name to isolate the keyword, but avoid to exceeding two hyphens. Stay away from underscores like a word separator, like for example "brilliant-diamonds.jpg";

Label the file extension. For example, when the image search engine sees a ".jpg" (JPEG) file extension, it's likely to assume the file is really a photo, and when it sees a ".gif" (GIF) file extension, it's likely to assume that it is a graphic;

Ensure that the text nearby the image that is highly relevant to that image.
Again, don't lose a great chance to help your site together with your images in search engines. Begin using these steps to position better on all of the engines and drive increased traffic to your site TODAY.

Fewer than 1 percent of website visits come directly from a social media URL according to research just released by customer satisfaction analytics experts ForeSee Results.

The company surveyed 300,000 consumers on more than 180 websites across a dozen private and public sector industries. The referring social media sites covered were not just the usual suspects like Facebook and Twitter, but over 40 sites including Flickr, Foursquare, Scribd, Stumbleupon, Meetup and Youtube.

It’s not all bad news for social media marketeers. 18 percent of site visitors (averaged across surveyed websites) report being influenced by social media to visit a website. However, there was considerable variation in the results for different companies.

The social media budgets of marketers is constantly increasing as the survey data to the right shows. Forsee Results’ research showed that the resources companies put into social media and the results they receive vary wildly. Spending more money does not automatically lead to higher numbers of visits to websites, brand awareness or sales.

Promotional emails are also sometimes neglected in favor of the more glamorous social media, in spite of the fact that such emails influence 32 percent of purchases.

Companies themselves seem a bit confused about their objectives when it comes to social media. Internet Retailer Magazine surveyed 400 U.S. companies (19 percent of them retailers) in December 2009 and January 2010. It found that 74 percent of companies wanted social media to drive traffic to their websites, while only 56 percent wanted it to increase sales. Shouldn’t it be the other way around?

Charlie Sheen’s use of technology and web 2.0 has earned him big dollars and a ‘winning’ formula for his own personal brand.

The Two And A Half Men star has greatly benefited from his own ability to embrace the internet, exploring all the marketing tools available to him. From breaking a twitter record, to hosting his own internet show on Ustream, the actor has done what few in Hollywood have ever achieved. Parody videos created by fans and websites dedicated to his one-liners are giving the actor non-stop free promotion and this in turn has created an audience of marketers for Charlie Sheen.

His infamous ABC interview gave birth to many of the viral video spoofs we have seen of his ‘radical’ behavior, which in turn, has fueled his twitter fan growth, and other media interview requests. With so many people discussing and sharing his antics, his own brand of controversy has been implanted onto the web, and has helped him sell tickets for his tour dates.

On top of that, Sheen’s regular updates with his fans on twitter provide a direct relationship and route to market. Sure that sounds a little cold, but he does have a following he can reach out to about his products.

Looking at what he did this week, Sheen took the next step in his own web fueled marketing campaign by making a self-parody video. This clever twist gave yet another viral hit to his name, as bloggers and social media re-posted and discussed how outrageous it was to see him spoof himself.

With many dates left on Charlie Sheen’s tour, the actor has a non-stop ‘Bi-Winning’ 24/7 marketing campaign, and other celebrities in the entertainment industry should learn from his online success.

As rumors of a later-than-usual iPhone launch for 2011 persist, a new report reveals that the notoriously secretive Apple is being even more careful than usual when dealing with overseas suppliers.

"Apple is keeping its iPhone 5 cards extra close to the vest on this launch to avoid a falloff in iPhone 4 demand ahead of a refresh, especially given the February launch of the CDMA iPhone 4 with Verizon," Analyst Brian White with Ticonderoga Securities said in a note to investors on Friday. He believes that the iPhone 5 could still launch in June or July, as previous models have.

White noted that various rumors have pointed toward a launch later than June this year for the fifth-generation iPhone. One report from March alleged that Apple has not even begun ordering components for the anticipated "iPhone 5," and the device is slated to arrive in the company's 2012 fiscal year, which begins in late September.

And a third report alleged that Apple is working on a major revamp of iOS, its mobile operating system, for version 5.0. New features like cloud-based storage of music, photos and video are rumored to arrive in the update this fall, likely alongside new iPhone hardware.

But despite all of those reports, White isn't yet convinced that the iPhone 5 will be introduced later than its typical June or July timeframe.

"Although we do not have a smoking gun that definitively rules out a delayed autumn unveiling or one that supports a launch this summer, there is a pattern of activity in motion with the supply chain that makes us question a delayed launch," he said.

White also cited sources who indicated that iPad sales could reach up to 40 million units in calendar year 2011. And supply chain sources also indicated that disruption from the earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan will actually end up benefitting Apple, as suppliers will "rush to support Apple at the expense of competitors."

The analyst already revealed earlier this week that Apple has been offering upfront cash payments to component suppliers in order to secure components in the wake of the disaster in Japan. Apple has apparently also been using a "three cover guarantee," referring to capacity, stock and price, to block out competitors and prevent them from building ample supply of devices.

Given the current cost of components, a prepaid contract-free iPhone with less internal storage would likely earn Apple only about 16 percent gross margin if it were priced at $300, a new analysis has estimated.

Analyst Charlie Wolf with Needham & Company took a closer look at the prospect of a hypothetical "iPhone lite," to see if it would be in Apple's best interest to build such a product. A cheaper iPhone has been viewed as a strategy that would work to Apple's advantage in emerging markets like China.

In February, both Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is working on a smaller and cheaper iPhone that it could sell contract-free. Soon after, The New York Times chimed in, and claimed that while Apple is not working on a smaller iPhone, it has explored opportunities in developing a cheaper handset.

Wolf largely agrees with the Times, and doesn't see a smaller iPhone with a new form factor as something that would be in Apple's best interest, even though it would be the easiest way to cut costs and created a cheaper handset.

"In our view, the iPhone would not be an iPhone if the display were, say, cut in half," he said. "Such a move would (dramatically) reduce the value of the iPod module for video viewing as well as the size of web sites accessed through the Safari browser. A smaller screen would also degrade the experience in using some applications, not to mention the possibility that some applications would probably have to be rewritten to accommodate a smaller screen."

iSuppli estimated that the 16GB iPhone 4, when it launched last June, carried a bill of materials of $188. The iPhone has an average selling price of $625 with a carrier subsidy, while gross margin is usually around 50 percent, suggesting that additional costs like assembly, software, testing, licenses and warrantees add up to $100 or more.

Ruling out the possibility of a smaller iPhone, Wolf said Apple could reduce internal storage from 16GB to about 4GB, but that would only reduce the bill of materials by $30 to about $157. By his estimation, such a handset would still have a total cost of $270.

"Apple would at best break even if it priced an iPhone Light at $250; and it would earn a modest 16% gross margin if it priced it at $300, which we regard as the high end of the range for a prepaid phone," Wolf wrote.

Gross margins of just 16 percent would be a number uncharacteristically low for Apple. For example, in its last quarterly results for the 2010 holiday buying season, Apple reported margins of 38.5 percent, or more than twice Wolf's estimate for a low-cost, no-contract iPhone.

"We suspect that the iPhone's designers and engineers have thought about this a lot more than we have so that the cost savings would be somewhat greater than we've estimated," Wolf said. "If, for example, the expenses incurred beyond the cost of components could be materially reduced, Apple might be able to earn a gross margin of 20% pricing the phone at $250 and 33% gross margin pricing it at $300."

The possibility of a cheaper iPhone with fewer features was hinted at by Apple Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook earlier this year. Cook, in an interview with Bernstein Research analyst Toni Sacconaghi, said Apple doesn't want its products to be "just for the rich."

Cook reportedly said that Apple is planning "clever things" to compete in the prepaid handset market. He also stated that Apple is "not ceding any market." He also referenced China, where Apple has found great success of late, and noted that it is a "classic prepaid market."

Roofing Contractors Vancouver - 5 Inquiries to Ask yourself

Roofing Vancouver - Faq's

1. Repair or Replace?

There's no opinion like an expert opinion. Most contractors provides you with a totally free estimate. Get a list of a couple trusted contractors and contact them well ahead of time of when you wish to obtain your roof fixed to help you compare costs and opinions.

2. Beauty versus Practicality?

Discuss this with your spouse or partner. (The kids could care less...at least the young ones.) Truth is, nobody wants an ugly roof just like nobody wants to be seen with bed hair. If you've got a great quality roof and you simply have to repair it, it's worth it to pay for the price of the original shingle instead of doing patchwork. A roof replacement doesn't happen very often (we hope!) and thus make a choice that suits you and your family well or it'll stick out like a sore thumb everyday you go home.

3. Must i replace the rooftop so I can sell the home for additional?

Consider this cautiously before making a choice. Depending on the roofing material you select, a new roof lasts between twenty, fifty, to one-hundred years! This means you have to check the year from the roof that's currently too deep first. Are you at year 18 of a 20-year warranted roof or year 30 of the 50-year warranted roof? Obviously, the standard is the reason why the rooftop keep going longer, but when you're not planning to stay in your present home for the rest of your lifetime, the larger expense may not be worth neglect the. Although a brand new roof can improve the value of your selling price, the rise might not be enough to cover your investment and that's bound to hurt your wallet.

4. Could it be a good idea that i can repair the roof myself?

Sure it is. Before you need to do, consult an expert first. You can do it yourself, but you shouldn't be a complete ‘lone ranger.' With respect to the extent of your repair, you might or might not change your mind. In either case, it helps to obtain a professional eye on the problem first and maybe even a free quote to help you do the math later and see if it's truly worth your time, sweat, and cash to become mister or miss fix-it.

5. Just when was a good time to get the roof replaced?

Weather may cause delays from days to weeks. Most people prepare yourself to have their roof replaced in the summertime when they know someone will be home during the day for a solid fourteen days. Once you have this era in your mind, make a call to some trusted contractor months ahead of time to get a quote. Some companies get reserved fast and odds are, they're probably the most reputable. Planning ahead from the summer also gives you time for you to discuss with many compare costs...especially if you need to possess the roof done by a particular date.

There are those too who'd prefer to turn their property into a economical and efficient living place. Your roof is a valuable part of your house and plays a role in each one of the aspects mentioned above. Because of this, you need to employ the services of qualified a Tacoma Roofing contractors.

Types of Roofs installed with a Tacoma Roofing contractor

One of the more prevalent kinds of roofs are asphalt shingles, steel or metal sheeting, fiberglass, slate and terra cotta tiles.

Each kind of roof invites distinct problems, but they can all be easily taken care of with a trusted Tacoma Roofer. It's imperative that you nip roof problems in the bud before they become too expensive or dangerous. You are able to schedule an appointment with the Tacoma Roofer to consider a look at your roof to see if you will find any issues or potential issues with it. If there are, they may be in a position to tell you how to approach them.

A Tacoma Roofing company Helps you to Build Strong Homes

The exteriors associated with a house, primarily the roof and gutters, face the onslaught of bitter and varying weather conditions, day after day. Painting, repairing, and cleaning gutters may be necessary. In some cases you may have to replace them completely. Usually, when your gutters show signs of trouble, your roof also needs to be inspected for problems. Whatever issues there might be, a skilled Tacoma Roofing company can examine them at length and suggest the remedy.

If your gutters tend to clog all too often, or there are leaks along the walls of your home, it might mean that there's debris piled up on the top. Loose branches, piles of leaves, along with other light objects that are swept on your roof throughout a storm can all contribute towards damaging your homes roof, which damages can be lasting. A knowledgeable Tacoma Roofing company will explain that birds, mice, and other kinds of rodents often build nest within the debris that collects on the top. While these nests may look rather innocent, they're great at collecting moisture, which can lead to loose shingles, mold, and indoor leaks in your house. Additionally, this may also cause vermin infestation. Following a storm, your Tacoma Roofing company will claim that you inspect your homes roof for just about any signs and symptoms of debris or damage.

Reverse Damages with the Help of a Tacoma Roofing company

However top quality the rooftop may be, it will eventually wear out with time. You will find shingles which are known as "25 year" or "30 year" shingles, but those numbers are just related to warranty produced by the makers. They hardly ever last that long. Realistically speaking, "25 year" shingles will not last more than fifteen to twenty years. Within an area that is vulnerable to storms, shingles or the entire roof may need to be replaced every 10 years. With a Tacoma Roofing company, the cost will be lower than what you think.

If there you lose any shingles, or there's some damage to them, a Tacoma Roofing company can help you. Damaged shingles can lead to indoor leaks, since the substrate from the roof becomes subjected to the elements. Shingles which are loose or broken can slip off and pose a potential hazard to people standing below. Missing shingles produce a gap that allows rain, wind, ice, and debris to build up underneath the adjoining shingles, which creates a "domino effect" that affects other shingles and they become loose or broken. A comprehensive investigation is going to be made by your local Tacoma Roofer, should you call them track of your suspicions of loose or missing shingles.

Your Tacoma Roofing company will be in a position to inform you what the best option is perfect for your roof. If your roof is not in a good shape, it's advised that you have it replaced completely. The Tacoma Roofing contractor may take you thru the different roofing possibilities for you which will fit your requirements as well as your budget.

What is Distinction between Commercial Roofing Companies From Residential Roofing Companies

If you are hiring a roofing company to re roof your home or building then you can be wondering what are the differences are between residential roofing companies and commercial roofing companies. To start with, the main one big difference is that often times a commercial roofing company might have signed an agreement with and be obligated to some roofing union in in a position to work on union commercial jobs.

If this is the case then their labor costs will prohibit them from working on non union residential jobs. Beyond that, if a commercial roofing company has not signed an agreement having a union they might be outfitted simply for commercial jobs which of course means their workers and equipment might not be in line with smaller residential jobs.

Residential roofing contractors in general tend to run smaller companies and hence, tend to be more in a position to bid competitively on residential jobs, which tend to be smaller than comercial jobs. Actually, quite often residential roofing contractors will run one man operations, where the contractor that you speak with may be the one which actually does the job on the building.

Also, liability insurance for commercial roofing is more epensive along with a larger bond is required for a commercial roofing work which will make it not cost effective for any commercial roofing contractor to do residential roofing jobs.

Still an additional factor is that commercial jobs can run on a tighter time frame for just about any number of reasons, requiring an industrial contractor to employ a larger crew or crews which again makes smaller jobs not as profitable on their behalf.

Difference Between Commercial Roofing and Residential Roofing

Are you aware that the rooftop of the building includes a huge effect on the whole structure itself? Residential roofing is generally completed just by one hired contractor but commercial roofing typically takes an entire team to accomplish the task. The reason being an industrial roof tends to be larger in terms of square feet than a residential roof.
Commercial roofs need to be made carefully keeping the nature and purpose of your building in your mind. For example, if there is a cafe or restaurant in the building then external components like ventilation systems, smoke stacks and pipes will be required. Residential roofs tend not to have such components other than a chimney or two at most.
Commercial roofs tends to be flat in design to accommodate further changes at a later period, whereas most residential roofs have peaks along with other architectural features like roof gardens.
Commercial roofing is much more expensive than residential roofing due to the special tools, materials and safety equipment which are needed onsite. Often the patching or maintenance jobs are done in segments unlike for a residential roof in which the repair or replacement work can be completed in a short time. This is one more reason why the equipment employed for residential roofs is often smaller and less costly too.
Commercial roof installations take a longer time to accomplish in comparison to residential roof installations and are usually constructed in large sections. During this phase however, it is important to make sure that there are no leakages, cracks or other visible deterioration signs as it can certainly cause considerable damage to the entire building.
It is important to install the right roof for any building depending on its purpose. Ensure that you hire a construction company that utilizes first class materials and has the best equipment for the job or neglect the may turn to be a huge loss later.

There was a time when seo was actually not required.

Whilst late like a decade ago, should you created a Web site anywhere, Google indexed it and also you gained visibility in the search engine results. Your page might have been with a free "estates" where anybody could put in a page and Google didn't mind. It may likewise have been a pure affiliate page without any original content and Google still indexed it.

Situations are unrecognizably different now.

Affiliate pages with "cookie-cutter" content duplicated everywhere might never get to the Google index; the identical fate is likely for all those pages you add in over a free-for-all website. And even "proper" websites with your own url of your website failed to achieve visibility among the proliferating sites in millions.

These wouldn't have mattered, aside from a very important factor. It was Google that provided the bread and butter for the millions of small enterprises that could not afford expensive marketing campaigns. In case your site was on the list of top few sites the appeared before a searcher's eyes when see your face searched for your product or service, you've got hundreds and also 1000s of visitors, lots of whom even bought your products or services.

Search engine optimization (SEO) entered the scene. Internet search engine specialists "reverse-engineered" to spot the factors that Google consider for showing websites towards the top of its search engine results pages. These factors were then consciously incorporated into your internet pages with the hope that Google will show your website among the first ten results it showed around the first page.

As more of the competitors adopted search engine optimization practices, things became difficult again. Your situation begun to slip in case your competitors did the SEO better. SEO battles became serious fights with every dirty trick working.

There have been "black hat" SEO practitioners who showed one page to look engines and another to human visitors. As engines like google weren't bothered with readability, you can fill the "search engine" page with pure gibberish, but gibberish written in a way that the engine dutifully indexed high.

A war of wits followed between unscrupulous SEO practitioners and search engines. Google changed its ranking algorithms regularly to operate around practices that allowed low value content to seem towards the top of its search engine results. In the end, Google's success depended on providing value to searchers, not merchants. And SEO practitioners created new tricks.

We will look at seo in a group of articles, starting having an overall look at on-line or Internet marketing.

'Counter-Terror' Policy Targets Uyghurs

2011-04-07
A new report says China uses the threat of terrorism to crack down on Uyghurs in Xinjiang.

China's anti-terrorism policy deliberately targets ethnic minority communities such as Uyghurs and Tibetans struggling for greater autonomy, according to a white paper by a rights group.

The policy equates terrorism with groups pushing for more self-governing rights, is too broad in scope, and shirks international human rights commitments, said the Hong Kong and New York-based Human Rights in China (HRIC).

The paper looked into human rights concerns within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), a regional intergovernmental organization which includes China and five other member states-Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan-with a total population of 1.5 billion people.

It said the SCO approach to counter-terrorism, modeled on China'sThree Evils doctrine, and highlighting principles of territorial integrity, noninterference in internal affairs, and social stability, contributes to supporting repressive regimes at the expense of human rights.

A failure to demand accountability from the SCO undermines the effectiveness and integrity of the international system in countering terrorism and advancing rule of law, peace, and security, HRIC said.

"China's approach to counter-terrorism is the Three Evils doctrine, and it links terrorism with separatism and extremism," HRIC director Sharon Hom said in an interview.

"This Three Evils approach is overbroad, highly politicized, and while not exclusively applied only to ethnic minority groups, it is regularly applied to Uyghurs and Tibetans in its practice."

Hom said other SCO member states follow China's lead by recognizing Xinjiang and Tibet as inalienable territories of China and repatriating its ethnic minorities who seek asylum within their borders.

"China has enormous clout in the SCO, and you can also see it in the ways in which the other SCO member states and the SCO will completely parrot China's line and China's policy on these two so-called autonomous regions."

Treatment of Uyghurs

The HRIC white paper said it found "serious issues" concerning China's treatment of Uyghurs, including the principle of non-refoulement and potential use of torture during interrogations.

Regulations specific to Xinjiang became part of China's domestic counter-terrorism legal framework in December 2009 when provincial-level lawmakers revised the region's Comprehensive Management of Social Order.

Through the revisions, Chinese authorities were ordered to specifically crack down on the three threats of "terrorism, separatism, and extremism" in the aftermath of the July 2009 ethnic violence in Urumqi which left hundreds dead, according to official media reports.

HRIC called the amendments "unique" to Xinjiang, adding that "such singular focus by the Chinese government ... suggests that the concept of terrorism has been applied in a biased fashion, with the Uyghur community the subject of intense scrutiny and suspicion."

It noted that while China does face real threats of terrorism, "the limited involvement of Uyghurs in terrorist acts cannot serve as justification of widespread repression throughout [Xinjiang] or the labeling of peaceful Uyghur activists under the rubric of the Three Evils."

Adherence to rules

But despite its reliance on the Three Evils doctrine, HRIC wrote, China continues to claim that it is acting to "firmly uphold and fulfill the resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly and the Security Council," according to a statement by the Chinese Ministry of Public Security (MPS).

Under U.N. rules, China pledged to oppose the "arbitrary widening" of the scope of fighting terrorism and identifying terrorism with any specific ethnic group or religion.

"The Three Evils doctrine undermines this principled approach and, in doing so, compromises human rights guaranteed under international law, and international counter-terrorism efforts as a whole," HRIC said.

HRIC recommended that Beijing narrow its "Three Evils"-based approach to national security and reformulate its definition of terrorism.

On June 24 last year, Chinese authorities announced they had broken up a "terrorist" ring of a Uyghur separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), after arresting more than ten of its members involved in an alleged major plot against China.

The announcement said that information leading to the arrest had been obtained through the investigation of 20 "individuals of Chinese citizenship" who had been deported to China on December 20, 2009-the exact date that Cambodia deported 20 Uyghurs seeking asylum following the July 5 ethnic unrest in Urumqi.

The statement also indicated that several of the alleged ETIM members had confessed to participating in a wide array of terrorist activities during interrogation.

Human Rights Watch said in February that the Cambodian government has a "dismal track record" of deporting refugees granted asylum status by the UNHCR, particularly those from neighboring countries such as China and Vietnam.

Ethnic tensions

Millions of Uyghurs-a distinct, Turkic minority who are predominantly Muslim-populate Central Asia and the Xinjiang region.

Ethnic tensions between Uyghurs and majority Han Chinese settlers have simmered for years, and erupted in riots in July 2009 that left some 200 people dead, according to the Chinese government's tally.

Uyghurs say they have long suffered ethnic discrimination, oppressive religious controls, and continued poverty and joblessness despite China's ambitious plans to develop its vast northwestern frontier.

Chinese authorities blame Uyghur separatists for a series of deadly attacks in recent years and accuse one group in particular of maintaining links to the al-Qaeda terrorist network.

Roofing Vancouver

In Vancouver special care is required when obtaining a estimation for a house. A roof covering company within Vancouver needs to know precisely what they're coping with when getting your roof away. Unexpected costs really are a common situation within Vancouver and each owner should be ready

Heritage- becoming one of the earliest places in the GVRD you are able to understand that there are several fairly aged houses. Having a steep message roof, most likely in the vicinity of 12/12 pitch which essentially indicates 45 diploma angle roof. The original roofing had been cedar shake sitting on taping. I'm not sure if it had been lazy or the tradition, if everyone was attempting to save money but if you have this particular roofing you probably got several layer on the roof. The initial is still upon and 2 other levels sit over the actual cedar shake. I've come across home exactly where five levels sat along with the house. Based on building code nowadays a Vancouver Roofing company should remove all levels if your brand new roof will be positioned above. A person folks tend to pay much more due to the steepness, the couple of levels associated with roof, the plyboard outdoor patio and the trouble. You may be 2 ft out of your neighbors

Roofing Vancouver

Low Downward slope - Vancouver unique houses run throughout East Vancouver. The actual minor problem with these houses in regards to roof covering is that fewer and fewer roof covering companies out there do tar and tiny rocks. The option you've is actually torch upon or even metal. Asphalt shingles cannot continue these types of houses. Your own message would be to reduced and asphalt probably wouldn't last ten years. Vancouver Roofing contractors which have been in the business of torch on for more than 10 years are probably dependable. Snow and ice develop on these rooftops cause mini pools to build up in your roof and trigger main seeping, keep the actual gutters and downpipes clear.

Reduced Downward slope or even Steep Downward slope cedar shake -- In Vancouver this is common on the Western aspect. There is not a lot to say of Cedar in Vancouver. There was a long time period with the 60's, 1970's and 80's whenever Vancouver Roofing businesses were not setting up cedar. The majority of Cedar rooftops tend to be new construction. cedar is the 1 product that most problems can be established before the work begins

Reduced Slope or Steep Downward slope Asphalt roofing - For those who have asphalt roofing and it hasn't been transformed within the last ten years then you've a good outdoor patio. Since the 1970's asphalt came into the marketplace. Along with new construction shiplap or also known as language as well as dance had been the only real option of the solid outdoor patio. Shiplap techniques a great deal in the winter as well as in summer time so plyboard ought to be split lower through the roofer

Roofing within Burnaby

Roof covering within Burnaby can have its problems and the easiest way to undergo them all is to function through North in order to Southern beginning towards the top of Burnaby. In North Burnaby the actual hills begin to slope and decline to some pretty strong angles. The large challenges I've found here are driveway steepness as well as use of the house, even though this may not seem like a issue for you it is a really big issue for any roofing company that has to hand carry your old roofing upward a slope and hands carry your brand-new roofing down a slope.

Hard, a slope area in this area kept building contractors aside and as a result you have homes which were all constructed by separately employed building businesses. There are some portions associated with North Burnaby that have little contractors homes all constructed together however to the degree that Central Burnaby offers. North Burnaby offers more fascinating constructed styles as well as rooftops creating a ball recreation area figure estimate in this area pretty difficult.

Burnaby Roofing

Main Burnaby is how large construction companies having a regular new method of creating the house had been fairly busy during the 70`s and earlier 80`s. With a shiplap deck becoming the only real option as well as asphalt tiles becoming the choice as well as positioned on a house. These days shiplap may be the roofers adversary because of the fact that the tiles of today aren't made to work with shiplap. Attempting to persuade main Burnaby they need to re-deck the rooftop along with plywood has frequently already been ignored and for good reason.

The caliber of shiplap has elevated levels of this area with most from it which i have come across becoming in between Six as well as 8 inches that is ideal. Other than that this particular a part of Burnaby is pretty easy to roofing along with access not being an issue everything often and a obvious design in steep roofing that's easy to understand. A lot of Vancouver specials focused here to with flashlight on being the main choice from the unique tar and gravel choice. Cedar roofs often spread the eastern side of this area with most converting in order to asphalt

Southern Burnaby tends to possess bigger rooftops that are sprinkled along with asphalt and cedar tremble. Cedar tremble roofs in this area are usually through homes close to 20 years aged. This particular home tends to convert into a asphalt roofing and most have alright access but some don't and also the roofs are not everything to steep. Some asphalt rooftops lower here have plyboard decks that is always a large saving idea for just about any home owner

Roofing West Vancouver

West Vancouver is a area associated with valley's and ridges, high drive-ways and hidden roofs. This is often a roofers headache however there are roof covering companies that work in the area as well as know what these people probably could be coping with. Unlike other metropolitan areas in the City Vancouver area, large building companies didn't purchase big tracks associated with land as well as develop patterned suv cul-de-sacs. They are doing exist but to some much smaller degree than other metropolitan areas. As a result you can find in a single street 20 homes just about all constructed differently. I guess because of the property landscape it was the only way to obtain houses built-in a few regions.

There was definitely the growth throughout the 70's by the shear number of shiplap patio's available. The majority of roofs within West Vancouver that require an upgraded tend to be asphalt rooftops which sit on a shiplap outdoor patio. They shingle is generally a interlock shingle that was designed for shiplap but no longer available in the higher Vancouver area. Most property owners within West Vancouver are understanding that they right now need a plyboard deck to cover the shiplap.

Cedar Point Roof on Cars by laell33

Several Cedar roofs exist in West Vancouver although not a lot that needs replacing. The majority of 20 years old cedar shake rooftops in West Vancouver have been replaced which means you look for a cedar roof in some places. Replacing cedar along with cedar isn't the just about all to common practice and many Cedar roofs are in brand new construction.

West Vancouver Roofing

Vancouver special offers aren't just about all to typical in West Vancouver. Flashlight upon as well as tar residue and tiny rocks is available although not suggested. The rainfall and blowing wind is commonly a little more severe in West Vancouver, with the large quantities of trees and shrubs and also the possibility of a heavy snowfall fall steel is a high suggestion.

Obtaining a roofing estimate within West Vancouver can be quite different than the individual residing right next door. for those who have the high front yard, have a roof that is steeper than Thirty degrees and also over Two thousand square feet than you can pay more than $ 3000 than your neighbor. The kind of roofing and quantity of pulsating can make a big difference. Within West Vancouver it's very hard to ball park a price with this really cause. I suppose you could say based on the little property you live on and also the design from the roof could make a big difference from a high estimate and a low estimation. Roofing access is a huge problem with some roofers needing to hands carry that old roofing more than hundred ft than hands transporting the brand new roofing a hundred feet to the home.

Obtain three estimates to compare apples along with apples and for the same item, gives you the ability to educate yourself and get the right questions. The majority of rooftops within West Vancouver is actually below ventilated so make sure when you are getting your homes roof estimate you can see if every estimation you receive will change your air flow or your new roofing will not final. The extra ventilation isn't the addition cost therefore the much more the actual better, you can't have a restrict on air flow. Sapling particles is a issue therefore maintain your roof without damaging the roof product. leak blower is probably the greatest form of maintenance.
